What? This blog still exists?

It seems like forever since I have done a legit blog post... sorry about that. It's not that I haven't had the time, and I have definitely been thinking of things that I've wanted to say ... I just ... well ... I don't have an excuse. So, I will give you a quick update about our ever-so-exciting life! I guess I'll rewind back to Thanksgiving, since it has been about THAT long since I've posted much...

For Thanksgiving break, we went to my parents' house! It was really nice to spend so much time with my nephews, and the rest of my family! We were able to enjoy some great food, and take a much needed break from school.

This is Austin. One of the cutest and happiest kids ever. Also hilarious. He can put on a great show. A comedy. Not a drama ... we'll let Payton have that one. Of course though, walking around with a sword in your mouth is definitely what normal people do, right? That's what I thought.

Anyway, back to the updates ... as always, the break went by way WAY too quickly. There were so many papers, tests, projects and presentations due between Thanksgiving and finals week it was too hard to keep track ... just to add one more thing in the mix, I also created this presentation for Chem-Dry! Go check it out.

Now finals week. I had it pretty dang good this semester. Both of my finals were online, and they were both open book. I was done with everything by Monday, and I've just been trying to pass the time since then. Finals week wasn't quite as kind to Tyler though. He had tests in Microbiology and Physics on Monday (his two hardest tests), then two more tests on Thursday. He rocked them all though! I'm so proud of him.

Here we are, Friday of finals week, and I'm just at work waiting for time to pass. Is it just me, or does time creep by ever-so-slowly on Fridays from 1:30-5? It's just me (and other various lab consultants, I'm assuming)... my computer lab is pretty busy now though, I guess. I'm the only person here ... One more thing ... I saw this in the library on Monday. I thought it was pretty funny. I wonder what was supposed to be in there? If it were me, it would probably be a can of Coke...

What do you think should be in the case?

3 things that I have learned today...

  1. It is really difficult to get up off the ground gracefully while wearing a skirt and heels.
  2. Playing in nursery makes church go by a lot faster than sitting in Relief Society and Sunday School.
  3. If you do what you are supposed to, like going to church and going the speed limit, you can maybe get all green lights (except for one) all the way from Logan to Brigham City. Maybe that was just luck though...

Like a little kid...

So, way back in elementary school when my mom would pack me a lunch every day, I would get a peanut butter and honey sandwich, cut diagonally. The other day, I made myself a peanut butter and honey sandwich and yep, you guessed it, I cut it in half. Just in case you were wondering, it made it taste a lot better too!

Sorry about the crappy picture, the lighting in my apartment doesn't help bad cell phone pictures...

By the way... I have now been cutting every sandwich that I make for Tyler. It's very manly, I know...it just is so fun! You should try it sometime.

Little Letters

I know, I've been really good at doing my little letters on Fridays. Oh well, it doesn't matter, because they are here now! Here we go!

Dear Snow, I have been watching you fall for the last 4 hours (it has felt like longer). You look really pretty, but... I just don't like you very much. You make everything all cold and wet. Plus, I don't want to walk home in you. Please stop. Love, A really cold girl.

Dear School, I'm ready for a break. Too bad we can't just have a full week for Thanksgiving! Only 3 1/2-ish more days and I'll be leaving town! Yippee! Love, A tired college student.

Dear Computer Labs, You are a fabulous job to have! I am happy that I have been able to get so much done today. I just wish you weren't as cold sometimes... Oh well. I've got my coat on. Love, A satisfied employee.

Dear Self, You should eat some ice cream tonight. Love, Self.

Dear Weekend, FINALLY!! Need I say more? Love, Me.

Dear Readers, If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have this blog. Thank you for making me feel like somebody is listening. Love, Katie.

Dear Sandy, Just in case I don't blog tomorrow... Happy Birthday! I wish I was there to celebrate with you! Love ya! Love, Your favorite neice!

Dear Tyler, You are the best. Thank you for keeping me going. Also, I don't know if you remember, but this morning around 4:15 there was a really big gust of wind that woke me up. Thank you for letting me cuddle with you for a minute until I could calm down again. You might have stayed asleep... Either way, thank you. I love you! Love, your Sweetie.

Happy Friday!!

I feel a little bit famous...

Just a little bit though, not enough to go to my head. Especially since my last name is spelled wrong one of the times I am mentioned...

Sunday Dinner!

Sunday dinner has always been one of the meals that I look forward to the most. Maybe because it is guaranteed to be home-cooked, or maybe because I'm just weird. Sundays are just different than any other day of the week. Since I've been married, I've tried to be really good about making a good Sunday dinner for Tyler, at least when we're in Logan. Yesterday was Sunday and I made a Cheesy Chicken Lasagna (found the recipe on Pinterest. On a side note, Pinterest has helped me find a lot of recipes that have helped me become a more adventurous chef. Yes, I just called myself a chef...). I thought that it was really good! I decided to take pictures of dinner to document two things: I cook dinner, and that the things I cook can actually turn out like they are supposed to. What do you think? Would you let me make you dinner?

Oh, I forgot to tell you... I also found a copycat Olive Garden salad dressing on Pinterest, so I decided to try that out as well. It wasn't as good as Olive Garden's, but it was a great change from your regular ranch dressing. The recipe can be found here!
Like I said, Cheesy Chicken Lasagna (recipe). Want some? Come on over, we have plenty of leftovers!

Just a piece of lasagna! I know. I should quit school and become a chef! Not that I would, but believe me when I say that I've thought about it...

I thought that dinner was a success! I really do enjoy cooking, especially when I have Tyler who will help me out, or do dishes, or eat things even when I don't think they turn out very good. I sure love that boy!

What new recipes have you tried lately?

P.S. The Barefoot Contessa on Food Network does not inspire me to cook. I think she's boring, and most of her food doesn't look good to me. Just thought I'd add that since she's on my TV right now!

Life... and countdowns!

Life is busy, but life is good. Tyler and I have just been going to school and work, and finding time to spend with our family and our friends. For as busy as things get, or as routine as things get, life is always good.

I was going to give you an update about life, but I started typing and realized that there aren't many updates to give...

This last weekend we went home to spend time with both of our families. It was a great weekend, especially since I got to play with this studly little guy:

On another note...the weather is getting cold, and I'm not quite sure how I feel about it yet. I do love being able to snuggle up in a blanket (and with the hubby) and drink hot chocolate eat ice cream. Oh, probably my favorite thing about winter is being able to use my oven whenever I want. We don't have air conditioning or a swamp cooler in our apartment, so the oven in the summer was just a bad idea...

When Tyler and I were still dating, I had a whiteboard in my room with various countdowns on them. I don't have the whiteboard anymore, but I would like to reinstate the countdown idea! Here we go!

14 days until Thanksgiving break! (maybe it is technically 15, but I consider the start of the break to be on Tuesday because that is the last day of class for the week.)

16 days until Thanksgiving!

31 days until classes are OVER!

38 days until finals week is done!

47 days until Christmas!

I'm typically one of those people who don't talk about Christmas until after Thanksgiving, but it is something I am looking forward to, and something that is taking place in the last few months of 2011, so, I decided to put it up. By the way, if I counted incorrectly, please tell me and I will fix it.

Happy Tuesday everybody!

What events are you most looking forward to?

Halloween!

Halloween this year wasn't very exciting...at all. We didn't have any parties to go to, we didn't get any trick-or-treaters (not that we had any candy for them), and we didn't have any reason at all to get dressed up... Even if there was something exciting going on over the weekend, Tyler had a Microbiology test on Monday morning, so he was mostly just busy studying.

So, what did we do to celebrate Halloween? Well, Tyler worked and I interned, then we watched ANTM while dinner was cooking, I signed up for another half marathon, and then we watched Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix as we ate dinner. Sounds really fun, right?

It wasn't too bad. I get to have my own little Halloween celebration of my own today as I go to the store to buy Halloween candy! That is what I am excited for!

What is your favorite Halloween candy?

Little Letters

So, I'm thinking about making my "Little Letters" posts be a weekly thing. What do you all think? Well, here we go...

Dear School, I'm really grateful for the opportunity you are giving me to get an education. I just wish that you gave less homework, and were more fun to go to. Sincerely, the girl suffering from major senioritis.

Dear Kjarinda, Thank you for making the S'mores bars for work yesterday. Best day at work yet! They were delicious. Love, Katie  P.S. What treat should we have next week?

Dear Weather, I do enjoy the changing of seasons, but, will you please warm up again, even if it is just for a little while? I don't like it being 30 degrees outside when I'm walking to class. Love, the girl who is sick of shivering.

Dear Brynne, Do you still want to make Sunday dinner? I sure hope so, because I think that it would be real fun... Let me know. Love, Katie

Dear Dinner, I love you. Just this one time will you be ready when I get home? I don't feel like making anything. Even if I you're not ready at 5:15 when I walk in my door, I will still love you. Love, the girl who doesn't feel like cooking tonight.

Dear 'Little Letters,' For some reason, I used to only do letters to things (except Tyler). I'm switching it up a little bit. Please don't hate me. I like writing letters to people too. Love, the letter-writer.

Dear Tyler, I'm sorry you always get a letter. If you want me to stop, I will. But I just wanted you to know that I am always thinking about you. You're kind of distracting, but I like it! You are amazing. I am the luckiest girl in the WHOLE world. Love, your wife.

Procrastination...

WHY is it so easy to procrastinate? You see, I have this paper that I need to write. I would like to have it mostly done by about 10:30 this morning. I know exactly what I need to put in this paper, but for some reason I'm writing a blog post, and I already checked my Facebook. Why? Because I really really really don't want to write this paper. Oh yeah, my other reason for procrastinating this morning... it's still soon enough after I woke up that my eyes are still a little fuzzy, and I can't think straight. But, I need to get this done. I'll give you an update and let you know how it went.

I saw this quote one time, I don't know who said it, but it applies perfectly in this situation.

If you wait until the last minute to get something done, then it only takes a minute!

**Update (as promised): I ended up finishing my paper by 9:45! One of the best feelings ever is being able to write something super quick, and actually have it turn out well. Anyway, thanks for reading!

Fall in Logan!

Last week when I was walking home through the cemetery I realized just how pretty Logan can be. What do you think?

Monday Happy List!

I know, I know, it's been a few weeks since I've done a happy list. I don't know, maybe you all didn't miss them, but I like doing them since they help me remember how blessed I am...and they remind me to look for the little things in life that can bring so much joy. With that said, let's do this!

Top 6 (Why 6? I don't know.) things that have made me happy lately:
  1. Fall break. Even though it was only one day off of school, I got to spend the long weekend with everybody I love the most!
  2. The Kindle. I really just love reading a good book, and my Kindle makes it even easier because I can just find books online that I want to read!
  3. A new computer battery. Thanks Dad! Now I don't have to be plugged into the wall anytime I want to use my computer!
  4. Spring classes being posted. I'll admit it, I'm a nerd. I LOVE planning my new school schedules. However, I have mixed emotions about planning my last-ever semester schedule. So crazy!
  5. Tyler. He is always on my list. I know he's not a "thing," but I just wouldn't feel right if I didn't include him in my list. He can always make me happy.
  6. Charlie Bit Me. I love re-watching YouTube videos and having them be funny still, even though I already know what's coming up. This last week I watched Charlie Bit me probably about 7 or 8 times, and yes, it was funny every single time!

I hope this makes you laugh as much as it makes me laugh.
Happy Monday!

Little Letters

Dear Kindle, Thank you for being really entertaining lately. I have loved reading my books on you. You have reminded me how much I like to read. Love, The girl who is going to read you in about 5 minutes.

Dear Fall Break, I hope you give me something fun to do. I also hope you give me some good weather! You are coming at a great time, and I look forward to spending time with you. Love, The girl who always wants a vacation.

Dear Pinterest, Thank you for showing me pictures of food that looks really delicious. You have inspired me to cook more. Unfortunately, I don't have all of the right ingredients, and these recipes take an extra special trip to the store. Maybe one day I will get better at planning dinners and will have ingredients ahead of time. Love, A wannabe cook.

Dear Laundry, We meet again. Whether it's folding or washing I can always count on you to be there for me. Please stop. Sincerely, your arch nemesis.

Dear Jimmy Fallon Thank You Notes, You make me laugh. I enjoy our time together. Please be funny again this week. Love, The girl who still laughs at "Face Bidets" when getting a drink out of a drinking fountain.

Dear Running, I never thought I would say this, but I kind of miss you. Kind of. We still have a love-hate relationship, don't worry. Maybe someday I will learn to love you. Sincerely, your long-lost friend.

Dear Readers, Thank you for reading. I just hope that somebody actually gets a good laugh from these letters, because I think I'm pretty funny. Also, I'm going to try to get better at posting. Be excited! Love, Katie

Dear Tyler, I love you. You inspire me. You make me want to do my best, and to seek out every opportunity. Thank you for making me want to be better. Also, thank you for calming me down on Sunday night when I was really nervous about my interview that was on Monday. You are the best! Love, Your Sweetie (or chicken, whichever you think I am right now.)

Looking for a good book?

I suppose it's time for me to write another blog post. I've been really bad at writing lately, but I just haven't been able to find the right words. Not that I've had anything to say. Usually I find a way to talk about nothing at all, but I guess I've been to busy reading my Kindle to care too much. Oops! Anyway, I just finished reading a really good book! It is called Delirium and it was seriously so good. It's about this girl in a society where love is considered a disease. I better stop here before I start talking about the book and give everything away. Seriously really good though.

If you end up reading it, let me know what you thought!
